Passive Components : (Resistors, Inductors, Capacitors) their types, construction, functions & identification. Active Components : (Semiconductors Diodes, Transistors) their types, construction, function & identification. Measuring Instruments : Multimeter & Cathode Ray Oscilloscope, their construction, function and working. Practicals : Identification of resistors, capacitors, their types, measuring their values, use of multimeter testing of various components with the help of multimeter.
MODULE2 : DIGITAL ELECTRONICS Number System : Binary, Octal, Hexadecimal number systems. Logic Gates : AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR and X-OR gates. Their circuits, logical definitions, symbols and truth tables. Logic families : TTL Logics, 74/75 series of Ics, their number coding. MOS circuits and their interfacing. Registers : Shift Registers, SIPO, PISO, Universal shift Registers, application and function of ALU. Flip Flops : Basic function, truth tables and operation, Counters & Timers: basic principles & uses, Semiconductors Memories: RAM, ROM ERROM, EEPROM. Static & dynamic memories. Practicals : Testing of various TTL gates, Identification of different TTL ICs.
MODULE3 : PC FUNDAMENTALS Introduction to hardware overview : Computer organization, difference between PC & AT. Microprocessors : Introduction, and operation of INTEL 8088m 80286, 80386, 80486, P-5. Add-on cards & Peripherals: display adapter, Hard disk / Floppy disk controller cards, peripheral devices like Hard disk, FDD, Monitor, Printer, Key board & Mouse etc. Operating System : Installation of DOS, basic commands & version. Windows-95: Introduction, installation (demonstration) and basic command, Error codes. Assembling of Computers : Assembling, reinstallation planning, loading of softwares QC checks. Common packages : MS word, EXCEL, FoxBASE- Introduction, installation (demonstration) & uses. Practicals : Identification of different add-on-cards, motherboards, different subassemblies of a computer assembling of computer, common testing methods, different software tools for testing of systems, installation of DOS, MSWORD etc.
CERTIFICATION A student who successfully completes the above three modules will be awarded a certificate in "FOUNDATION COURSE IN COMPUTER HARDWARE MAINTENANCE"
